After a week of rainy weather, Saturday was looking very promising with clear blue skies and SUN SHINE! The guests and Veterans of the Alabama Veterans Museum were also ready for the beautiful morning, as the Museum saw over 160 for breakfast sponsored by Frank and Annetta Reece of Reece's Pest Control.
Among the guests were Tammy Tanner and Matt Ranson. Tammy attends Calhoun Community College, and was at the museum to donate a community service project she had recently completed. Painted on a large sheet of plywood representing the Navy, Marines and the Air Force were three soldiers dressed in full uniforms, but… with their faces cut out.
The Museum isn’t exactly child friendly, the historic and valuable displays are antiques with most from local personal possessions. However, the museum has several school tours each year, so this addition would be great to allow the children to have better interactivity, give them an association of their own military family members and be a memorable visit for the children.
Tammy loved the idea and began researching the uniforms and the construction requirements. Matt built the board and stand, and Tammy did the art work. (A bit of irony to this story is Tammy hasn’t ever had an art class, she will have her first Art Class this year at Calhoun Community College.
Director Sandy Thompson is proud to accept this picture board on behalf of the Museum and all those who will enjoy having their photos made as one of these American Soldiers!
